Products and Sustainability
Is Jokey packaging recyclable?
All Jokey packaging is highly recyclable and can also be manufactured with large proportions of post-consumer recyclates. See also the points Jokey Eco Design and Jokey Eco Resources in our Eco Concept 4.0.
Why is Design for Recycling so important?
The path to sustainable, recyclable packaging starts at the very beginning with the design. This is where the conditions for subsequent recycling and a functioning circular economy are created. The Jokey Eco Design ensures the technical quality of the recyclates, which are returned to the circular economy as secondary raw materials after the packaging has been used.
Jokey packaging is mono packaging – what does that mean?
Jokey packaging is made from a single plastic material, polypropylene (PP). The hangers and labels used are also made from PP and, as a packaging unit, provide a homogeneous mass of material that does not need to be further separated and sorted, making it ideal for the subsequent recycling process. Recyclable material streams from household collection take this packaging, sort it and recycle it into so-called recyclates.
What is material efficiency?
Packing as much product as possible with as little material as possible. This means weight reduction and no packaging where we don’t need it.
Thanks to its lower weight, Jokey packaging reduces the ecological footprint, as it uses less plastic during production. And in logistics and transportation, they improve the ratio of packaging weight to filling weight – thus reducing energy requirements and unnecessary CO2 emissions.
Are containers decorated with an in-mold label recyclable?
In-mold labels (IML) consist of a polypropylene (PP) film (virgin material) and are thermally melted during the production process of the buckets or lids. In terms of materials, the bucket and label form a recyclable material unit. Pails and lids with IML can contain post-consumer recyclate and are highly recyclable.
Which is more sustainable: a bucket with a metal or plastic handle?
Whether and to what extent a bucket with a metal handle is recyclable depends on the technology used in the processing plant. We generally recommend the use of plastic handles, as a bucket made of pure material is up to fully recyclable.
Can Jokey issue a certificate of recyclability?
Recyclability must be assessed individually for each packaging, as several factors are included in the assessment: Coloring, decoration, hangers, additional labels or sealing foils (which the bottler or distributor attaches to the packaging), proportion of residual filling after use, etc. For this reason, it is unfortunately not possible for us to issue a general assessment or certificate for our packaging. For a certificate, each packaging must be assessed individually. In this case, we refer to accredited testing bodies, e.g. the cyclos-HTP Institute or RecyClass.
