Jokey Group receives GUTcert validation for PCF calculation tool in accordance with the GHG Protocol
The Jokey Group has successfully had its group-wide calculation tool for Product Carbon Footprints (PCFs) validated by the independent certification body GUTcert. With the issuance of the official Certificate of Conformity, GUTcert confirms that the methodology applied complies with the requirements of the GHG Protocol – Product Life Cycle Accounting & Reporting Standard (cradle-to-gate, excluding Chapter 13).

Validated methodology in accordance with internationally recognised standards
The validation confirms that Jokey has implemented a compliant and consistent system for calculating product-related greenhouse gas emissions. The PCF tool covers all relevant life cycle stages – from raw material extraction through pre-production and upstream transport to production. Emission factors from established international databases are used for modelling, ensuring high data quality, transparency and industrial comparability.
The certificate expressly attests to the compliant application of the accounting rules, including system boundaries, data collection and emission factors. The assessment was based on an audit conducted in accordance with ISO 14065:2022-02 and ISO 14064-3:2020-05.
Significance for customers, markets and regulation
With the validated PCF calculation tool, the Jokey Group has established a methodologically sound basis for providing reliable product emissions data. Such data is increasingly in demand – including in the context of EU sustainability regulation, the procurement requirements of major branded goods manufacturers, and for life cycle assessments along the plastics and packaging value chain.
“The validation of our PCF tool not only enhances external transparency, but also strengthens our internal structures. It enables us to systematically analyse emissions data, derive targeted improvement measures, and continuously optimise the group-wide CO₂ reduction process. At the same time, our customers benefit from reliable and consistently generated data to support their own sustainability requirements.” – Michael Schmitz, Sustainability Officer at the Jokey Group
Further development of climate management planned
The validation of the PCF tool represents another building block in the group-wide climate strategy. As a next step, Jokey plans to validate its Corporate Carbon Footprint (CCF) for the 2025 financial year in order to externally verify both product-level and corporate-level emissions. This forms part of the evaluation and continuous improvement process within the group-wide CO2 Emission Reduction Programme.
The Certificate of Conformity issued by GUTcert confirms, among other things, the application of valid accounting standards, traceability, and the compliant definition of system boundaries within the PCF tool.
GUTcert is an accredited certification body for management systems in accordance with globally recognised standards set by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO). Around 120 employees are engaged in certifications covering quality, environmental, energy, and occupational health and safety management systems, as well as in validations of EMAS environmental statements and verifications of emissions reports under the EU ETS and carbon footprints. Comprehensive testing services in the fields of IT security and renewable energy further enhance its profile. As part of the AFNOR Group, GUTcert operates worldwide. The GUTcert Academy offers practice-oriented training programmes for representatives, auditors and technical experts.
