EU Regulation on deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR) – start of application postponed again

The European Union has officially postponed the application of the Regulation on deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR) and simplified key elements of its implementation. On 4 December 2025, the Council and the European Parliament reached a political agreement on a targeted revision of the Regulation. The aim is to clarify regulatory requirements and strengthen operational feasibility for companies.

The adjustment of the timetable takes into account the challenges faced by companies and the technical introduction of the EU information system:

  • Large and medium-sized companies: Mandatory application from 30 December 2026.
  • Small and micro-enterprises: Mandatory application from 30 June 2027.

In this way, the EU is allowing more preparation time and supporting an orderly transition to the new regulatory structure.

Climate change, biodiversity loss and global deforestation remain challenges of paramount global importance. The EU Regulation on deforestation-free supply chains (EUDR) therefore continues to pursue the objective of ensuring that only relevant raw materials and products made from them – including beef, soy, palm oil, wood, cocoa, coffee and rubber – that are produced on non-deforested land, are manufactured in compliance with the law and are accompanied by a valid due diligence declaration.

Deforestation includes the conversion of forest into agricultural land. Accordingly, these raw materials and products may only be placed on the market, made available or exported if they are deforestation-free, legally compliant and accompanied by a corresponding due diligence declaration in accordance with Article 3 EUDR.

We are using the extended preparation period to systematically adapt our processes to the new requirements of the EUDR. We are further intensifying our dialogue with our suppliers to ensure data transparency and compliance along the entire value chain.
