Jokey sustainability course 2030: climate targets successfully verified by Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi)
Jokey is committed to reducing absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42 percent by 2030, from a 2021 base year. Jokey is also committed to reducing absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions by 42 percent over the same period. These climate targets, which have now been confirmed by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi), are part of the Jokey Sustainability Course 2030.

The Jokey Group is pleased that its climate targets have been validated by the Science Based Targets initiative (SBTi). With the near-term science-based targets, Jokey Holding GmbH & Co.KG commits to reduce absolute Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions by 42 percent by 2030, starting from the base year 2021, and to reduce absolute Scope 3 GHG emissions from e.g. purchased goods and services, upstream transportation and distribution or end-of-life treatment of sold products by 42 percent within the same period.
“The verification of our climate targets by SBTi is another important milestone in our 2030 sustainability course, which we are implementing with the Jokey Eco Concept 4.0,” says Michael Schmitz, Sustainability Officer of the Jokey Group. “The validation by SBTi confirms our roadmap for reducing GHG emissions. Achieving the target requires a high level of ambition across the entire value chain, including upstream and downstream areas. This is why we consistently involve our employees, suppliers and customers in the transformation process,” Schmitz continues.
Jokey had already committed to the SBTi targets in 2022. The targets (42 percent in all 3 scopes) were submitted in 2023 and have now been validated by SBTi. The non-profit organization develops standards, tools and guidelines that enable companies to set targets for reducing greenhouse gas emissions. The SBTi distinguishes between short-term (near-term) and long-term targets in order to achieve net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2050 at the latest and meet the goal of the United Nations Paris Climate Agreement to limit the global temperature increase to 1.5 °C. SBTi partners include the United Nations Global Compact (UN GCD) and the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF). The One Planet Business Team of WWF Germany provided strategic support to Jokey on this journey.
“We are delighted that Jokey’s science-based climate target has been validated. This has laid an important foundation stone in Jokey ‘s comprehensive transformation process. We look forward to continuing our collaboration towards a net-zero future.” – Lea Fink, Senior Manager Climate Business, WWF Germany
The Jokey Group developed its own sustainability program in 2017 with its Jokey Eco Concept and has been continuously expanding it ever since. With its 2030 sustainability course, Jokey is shaping a transformation process whose goals include a circular economy for plastics (focus on packaging) and balance sheet climate neutrality (net zero target).
