EU Single-Use Plastic Products Directive

On 3 July 2021, the requirements of the EU Single-Use Plastic Products Directive (EWKRL) for certain take-away food packaging made of plastic, including reusable alternatives, came into force in Germany as a result of the amendment to the Packaging Act.

Since then, the affected single-use plastic products may no longer be placed on the market. However, there is still uncertainty as to which plastic food packaging is covered by the requirements. This is partly due to unclear formulations in the EU Commission’s guidelines regarding the scope of application.

For this reason, we are unable to provide a general answer to the frequent questions we receive from our customers regarding the raw materials used for the respective packaging. However, we are endeavouring to clarify open customer enquiries as quickly as possible in collaboration with experts. You can find a guide to the legal classification of single-use plastic food packaging here.
