Reusable packaging: Jokey cooperates with Spanish start-up

The Jokey Group, one of the leading manufacturers of plastic packaging, has entered into a strategic partnership with the Spanish start-up Bumerang. The young company, based in Barcelona, specialises in innovative reusable packaging solutions for the take-out and catering delivery services. Jokey is investing in the circular economy company, which was founded in 2020, and also supplying it with recyclable reusable packaging. Through their collaboration, both companies want to make an active contribution to promoting the circular economy.

With this decision, the Jokey Group is taking a further step towards promoting the development of reusable packaging. This is one of the measures with which Jokey is seeking to achieve its goal of becoming as circular as possible by 2030 as part of its strategic sustainability course. “The collaboration with a young and successful start-up like Bumerang fits in well with the fields of action of the Jokey Eco Concept and our sustainability strategy as a whole,” emphasises Ramona Lob, Head of the Reusable Packaging Business Unit at the Jokey Group. “With this step, Jokey is entering a project that is considered one of the most promising in the reusable packaging sector in the Spanish and Portuguese markets and can enjoy steadily growing user numbers.” Boomerang’s partners include, in particular, operators of canteens, cafés and restaurants. The company is now also relying on reusable packaging from Jokey. These are characterised by a resource-saving use of materials and optimised features: they are stable, stackable and therefore space-saving. They thus contribute in several ways to further reducing the ecological footprint – in production and use.

The group plans to establish its own reusable segment – with its own subsidiary brand – in addition to these and other existing collaborations in the take-out sector. This will soon be launched on the market under the name KeepIn.

Working together to build a circular economy

“We are delighted to have Jokey at our side as a strong partner that can provide us with excellent support based on its many years of experience and expertise in plastic injection moulding,” emphasises Oriol Segarra Pol, founder and CEO of Bumerang. “Jokey’s vision and special commitment to the reuse sector provide ideal conditions for a collaboration with us. After all, we both want to actively contribute to building a functioning circular economy in Europe.” The partnership marks a significant milestone for Bumerang, Segarra Pol continued. Not only does it secure the start-up’s future growth, but it also helps to expand the reach of its reusable packaging system. This will enable Bumerang to fulfil its mission of eliminating single-use to-go packaging from the markets more quickly.

In addition to the Jokey Group, Duni AB also holds shares in Bumerang. The Swedish company specialises in the production and distribution of sustainable disposable take-out packaging as well as tableware and table textiles for the catering and food industry.
