Plastic packaging made from renewable and recycled raw materials – Neste and Jokey start cooperation
The Jokey Group and Neste are starting a strategic cooperation. Neste is a global supplier of renewable fuels and renewable and recycled solutions for the chemical industry, and Jokey is a leading international manufacturer of rigid plastic packaging.
Both companies want to work together to promote the use of sustainable plastic packaging more effectively. This includes packaging in which Jokey also processes high-quality drop-in hydrocarbons from Neste that are obtained from renewable and recycled raw materials. The aim is to help Jokey’s customers in the filling industry to achieve their sustainability goals more quickly by using materials in an ecologically sensible way. Through their cooperation, Jokey and Neste want to further promote the use of renewable and recyclable raw materials in the future and thus strengthen a plastics industry based on circular value creation.
Jokey packaging is 100 per cent recyclable. For the food and non-food sectors, it stands for the highest quality, hygiene, user-friendliness and innovation. Neste’s raw materials for plastic production consist of renewable and recycled components obtained from biomass, such as various waste and residue oils and fats, as well as chemically recycled plastic waste. These are highly suitable for the production of high-quality plastic packaging and are of the same high quality as conventionally produced plastics. In addition, they fit well into existing production and recycling infrastructures, are physiologically harmless and can also be used in contact with sensitive filling materials such as food or medical products.
“The Jokey Eco Concept 2.0 is our guideline for developing greater sustainability. Our packaging is already designed to meet the requirements of a sustainable circular economy. We are always exploring new avenues and look forward to an inspiring exchange with Neste to continue to advance our sustainable packaging solutions in the future,” emphasises Michael Schmidt, Chief Procurement Officer of the Jokey Group.
“In terms of our commitment to sustainability, we have a lot in common with Jokey,” emphasises Mercedes Alonso, Executive Vice President for Renewable Polymers and Chemicals at Neste. “We are pleased to be able to support Jokey in the development of packaging solutions based on renewable and circular raw materials. This is an excellent way for us to join forces and jointly drive the transition to a circular economy for plastics.”
