Jokey is now offering ISCC PLUS-certified plastic packaging

Cologne/Wipperfürth, 7 September 2020: The Jokey Group, a leading international company in the field of plastic packaging, is now offering ISCC PLUS-certified products. Four locations, three in Germany and one in Spain, have received ISCC PLUS certification. The certificate stands for the use and traceability of recycled materials on a mass balance basis. This step is a further contribution by the group of companies to promoting a sustainable circular economy. It is thus once again expanding the fields of action of its sustainability manifesto, the Jokey Eco Concept 2.0.

At its ISCC-certified locations, the Jokey Group now also processes sustainable plastics whose basic material is obtained through chemical recycling or on the basis of biological waste materials. For its customers in the filling industry, Jokey thus offers a further environmentally friendly packaging solution that can be used above all in the food sector. In the non-food sector, Jokey has been manufacturing packaging from recycled plastics, so-called recyclates, since the early 1990s. The post-consumer recyclates from household collections are obtained through material-based, mechanical recycling. Paints, building materials, chemicals, for example, are increasingly being filled into recyclate packaging due to growing consumer awareness.

With ISCC PLUS, the Jokey Group has chosen a recognised standard for certifying the production process using the mass balance approach. ISCC PLUS is an international certification system for all sustainable raw materials, including agricultural and forestry biomass and recycled materials. The ISCC PLUS certification system requires full traceability of sustainable materials and is verified by independent auditors.

ISCC PLUS certification confirms to companies along the supply chain that the mass balancing of recycled and bio-based materials follows clear rules,” explains Dr Jan Henke, Director ISCC System.

The Jokey Eco Concept 2.0 provides the framework for the new ISCC PLUS-certified plastic packaging, which is used in the production of sustainable packaging in addition to the secondary raw materials obtained primarily from material recycling processes. In addition, the Eco Concept focuses on sustainable design to strengthen the circular economy. “Transparency plays an important role for us when using sustainable materials in the value chain,” emphasises Jens Stadter, CEO of the Jokey Group. “Certifications such as ISCC PLUS are therefore an essential part of the Jokey Eco Concept. They are firmly anchored in our sustainability strategy, as is the creation of recognised standards.”
