Jokey experts provide live information about the advantages of recycled packaging

Due to the ongoing corona-related contact restrictions, Jokey is also relying on creative solutions. Under the title “No fear of recyclates”, a Jokey team of experts was therefore available to answer questions at a customer event at the end of October – in a livestream.

More than 70 customers followed the Jokey expert panel on recycled packaging online. The event was streamed live from a film production studio in Cologne. Viewers were able to ask their questions directly to the experts in the chat. Short films were shown to set the scene. Right from the start, the focus was on the new Jokey Eco Concept 2.0, which describes the contribution the company is already making to the circular economy.

Hartmut Karsubke, who is responsible for material development at Jokey, gave a tour of the production hall at the Gummersbach site in another short film. There he explained how Jokey processes delivered post-consumer recyclates (PCR) from household collections – from the injection moulding machine to the final material tests on the finished product. Thomas Schumacher, head of Jokey’s quality management laboratory, subjects the recyclate containers to a series of endurance tests, because the requirements for the material properties are particularly high here. During the 45-minute live talk, both experts, together with Alexander Hammer, Jokey Sales Director, and Gustav Dengel, Product Manager Packaging, also provided expert insights into the numerous possibilities for using attractively designed recyclate packaging in the non-food sector.

Strengthening the circular economy together

Michael Schmitz, Head of Marketing and Communication, covered a wide range of topics in his moderation, from the first recyclate bucket produced by Jokey in 1991 to today’s requirements for sustainable packaging and future-proof solutions. The recyclate campaign “Grey is the new Green”, launched in 2018, is meeting with an ever-increasing response from bottlers and retailers. Nadine Dorzok, also from Jokey’s marketing department, presented some of the questions asked in the live chat to the panel of experts. These included the use of bioplastics and the possible future use of recycled materials in the food sector.

Recycled packaging is a win-win solution

“Even though the coronavirus is currently slowing us down in all areas of society, we still have to remain active and seek out partnerships in order to jointly develop a functioning circular economy,” said Michael Schmitz, summarising the livestream event. Jokey’s recycled packaging makes an important contribution to this and is a win-win solution both ecologically and economically – the Jokey experts agree on this. Ecologically, because they conserve valuable raw materials and can be designed to be both smart and attractive. They thus meet the growing demands of environmentally conscious consumers for sustainable and contemporary packaging. And economically, because in the long term they will be able to hold their own against anti-plastic waste campaigns as well as against possible plastic taxes.
